Escape from Fiordland....

2nd March
James writes:Knowing how much Babs wanted to get away from the rain and remoteness of Barns Bay we waited a long time for a message from her to say she was OK. A short brief message came at 10pm NZT to say she was Safe at Hanna´s Birdlings after a hard surf landing, I suspect this was in the evening light  with a 2m swell.
Babs now starts a new chapter having escaped after 6 days stranded alone in rain and wind from the remote Fiordland coast. The west coast will present it´s own problems including long exposed surf breaks and the notorius west coast sandflies, but the good news its a good forecast for the next days with variable winds under 10 knots and a relatively low surf swell of 1 to 1.5 meters.
Special thanks to everyones comments and the Milford marine fishing radio community and of course again Meri who all took time to look out for Babs.

Careful on those beach landings. One of them stole Freya's favourite paddle, and another tried to break her kayak!
